Family Tree - Connecting the Dots of the Paranormal: Reincarnation and Super Human Abilities

Reincarnation and the spiritual development religions that Hinduism, Buddism, Yoga, and other Eastern religions teach is not a new subject. The super human abilities that some seem to possess, even if they are not followers of these religions, is something that still baffles and perplexes the scientific world to this day. People who claim to do be able to do super human feats say anyone and everyone can perform them, so the connection to us and their abilities deeper rooted?

Spiritual growth and karmic balances are strong with the previously mentioned religions and non-followers also point toward a good will to all. This is important to note because it would seem, as one progresses in spirit, the laws of the material world, as we see it, gradually falls in line with the spiritual attuned individual. The idea is that we, over many life times, seek to balance our Karma and develop the spiritual side of us to find out "High Self" or become "Enlightened". The terminology changes a bit over these beliefs, but the driving goal seems to be the same. Due to our life span not being long enough, normally, to finish this process, we come back to incarnate another body to continue or training and learn the lessons needed to get there. So, this is where we hit the super human side of what seems to be modern day twists on ancient religions.

For example there is Devraha Baba, and Indian saint who lived in Mathura. His family tree places his age at around 250 years! It was rumored he lived over 700. He was called "The Ageless Yogi" having gain mastery over his hunger and time of his death. Subbayah Pullavar, another Indian yogi, had been recorded levitating for five minutes in front of 150 witnesses. Sri Sathya Sai Baba was called the "Man of Miracles" and seemed to be able to perform astonishing things. They included materializing objects from thin air, resurrection, healing all types of diseases, as well as possessed the ability to read one's thoughts.

These men, and many like them, were very spiritual men with many years of life devoted to their own spiritual development. It would seem that even death can be defied by one who is able to attain such a level. An ability to increase life span, or to transfer one's soul, to balance out Karma in a single lifetime is even one of the Minor Siddhi powers in the path of Kundalini Yoga. As ancient as these beliefs are, it would seem they understood a connection between the spirit and a cycle of new incarnations before finding, for lack of a better word, "enlightenment". At it's higher levels or mastery and understanding men such as those mentioned above shine through as having super human abilities, but perhaps that's just a path we all have to take and discover. Until beliefs like this and their connections to science spread to more people, this aspect may be locked in the "paranormal" realm.

Here, I think, another look to ancient knowledge will be our best guide in understanding ourselves and how we directly relate to paranormal phenomena.

Family Tree - Husband Wanted Apply Within

Charles Dickens, on his visit to America, was appalled by the Democratic way with which young people got married. It seemed to him that while democracy was all right in its own way, when choosing a wife a man should think long and hard before choosing a spouse. He should at least be able to go down her family tree to her grandfather or grandmother. But, of course, the further he could go the better. You couldn't flirt with the happiness of your future by marrying a pretty face, or pleasant disposition. There was posterity to think of.

Being a man, he, of course, didn't consider the plight of a woman. How was she to get a husband in days where you could only choose from the neighborhood in which you lived?

In days past, when bearing of children was upper most in everybody's mind, every girl wanted to get married as early as she could. And, as in the present age, with the men it was always, 'manana'.

No woman could afford to sit and wait till her prince started thinking about going out into the world and look for that special woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He might think he was ready at the age of sixty-five, which was quite useless for her. So if she wanted to get married while she could still walk, it was up to the woman to let him know that she was ready and willing and able.

We imagine that advertising started with the twentieth century. As far as the marriage stakes are concerned, it's been around for ever. If you see red every time you see those bill boards running the length of roads and country, then have a think about this. In some countries, parents with an eligible daughter at home, would actually use their house as the advertising medium.

Depending in which region you lived, you might paint your whole house a certain color to encourage the young bucks to drop in and have a look inside. In areas where money didn't grow on trees, instead of painting the whole house, they might throw over it splashes of certain color. Or, in other cases, instead of the whole house, they might just paint the fence. It was just a question of a smaller ad. Everyone knew what the color stood for.

But, of course, where you had an obstinate father who'd just shrug his shoulders and splutter, 'I'd be blowed if I'm going to waste good paint on those young idiots. If they can't find her, that's their bad luck.'

Male logic, thought the women of the house and looked for other ways to attract those males. There was the one where they poured sand in the front yard, and instead of a living garden, created a garden of sand arranged like so many plants. It was always effective, and much talked about, especially in a country town where nobody knew what sand was.

And there was always the standby, a wreath nailed to the front door when it wasn't even Christmas.

Family Tree - The Infamous Donut - Make Your Mark

Close your eyes and think back to the 60's and 70's. Remember the high-spirited drivers that bought and drove the muscle cars? This may help - -

Donut: Definition - Circular design produced on a road surface by a vehicle's tires when they are rotating with a greater angular velocity than the road under them.

As the name implies, the basic shape is round but many options exist. In fact, even the straight burn out has been called a donut. Spirals, check-marks, hooks, sweeps, etc. have been chosen to make a statement and named "donut" over the years. Whichever is planted on the road, the car tires must revolve faster than the road surface and leave a lasting mark.

The art of creating donuts dates to the caveman following the discovery of the wheel. Some spirited young man got himself a set of wheels and spun them, making a mark in the dust, thus originating a very simple donut. Later the baker's confection, a doughnut, was named after the original donut because of its shape.

Through the years, "wheels" have become more and more complex so that today all one has to do is mash an accelerator to get the desired effect. All a person must do is climb into an automobile with sufficient torque, cramp the wheels and fully depress the accelerator. One may go with the 180-degree turn, or "bat-turn", or one may stay with the usual 360 degree, full turn donut. This is left to the discretion of the hot rodder. (Note: It was a lot easier a few decades ago when there were no front-wheel drive cars.)

These pleasing circuitous marks are most often seen at intersections or on wide roads, although the art may be performed at any location. The longevity of a donut depends on various factors. When left on cement or asphalt, the duration of the artistic statement can be extended by leaving more of the tire on the road and bonding it with the road surface with high heat. High power and warm weather will allow a large amount of Goodyear to remain on display for extended periods of time.

Longevity of a donut on a gravel or dirt road depends on the frequency of road maintenance, road consistency and the perseverance of the donuteer. For example: If a road only gets graded monthly, is lightly packed with limited traffic, and the artist wants to make a profound statement, he can revolve for several rotations and really carve out a beauty. That being said, he will still tip his hat to the chap that put 20,000 miles worth of tire wear in an expression on a hard surfaced road.

The donut is invariably created at some time in the life of every young driver with a fair amount of horsepower under the hood. Some, of course, employ this means of unparalleled entertainment and thrills more than others. Most, however, will grab their initial "chirp" and retire to a lifelong adventure of sedate driving.

Many young, ace donuteers live just for the thrill of outdoing one another. If Joe Car can go around more times and leave more of his Firestones on the road than Tom Auto, he is the better. The only way to dethrone him as King of the fast turn-about is to plant more rubber on the road with more expression and thus the never-ending circle (pun intended) continues.

This process of getting kicks is much appreciated by the auto repair industry and tire manufactures around the world. Donuteering is frowned upon by fathers, mayors, officials, and elderly people not accustomed to the ear splitting but beautiful scream of tortured rubber being flayed on hard surfaced roads.

Nowadays, spyware remover software is a must-have software product that is designed to protect your PC from possible online attacks. If your PC is used for work or any other important activities, then you cannot afford not to have one. But how do you choose the right software product? There are many of them out there, and you need to make sure to have high quality application that will do the job.

First of all, spyware and adware are simple programs running on your PC that can send out data to a third party server about your online activities or personal information. As the internet grew for the past 7 years, more people started shopping online and exchange very important information. This has also attracted so called hackers that try to intercept the data being sent from your computer for their own material benefits.

There are a few software applications out there that allow you to scan your PC free of charge, but they don't always provide updated definitions of all the spyware and internet viruses out there.

Here are just a few tips you should consider before buying a spyware remover software:

- Does the merchant have a proven track record in the industry
- Do they offer a free trial
- The cost of the software compared with prices in the industry
- Features of the software
- Does it have user friendly interface
- Is their spyware and anti-virus definitions database being updated frequently
- Search online for customer's reviews of the particular product
- Does the merchant offer "Money-Back Guarantee"

Keep in mind that you want the best software on the market if you are using the internet on daily basis, and making lots of purchases online.

To check if the merchant you are buying from has a proven track record, you could perform a search using Google for their business name to verify they are a legit company.

Make sure the company offers a free trial so you can test the software on your computer before you make the purchase. This way you can estimate how effective and user friendly the software will be.

Always compare prices with other similar products. The most expensive one is not always the best choice.

Compare different features of 3 or more software products to pick up some of the most important ones that you need.

Family Tree - Putt the Ball in the Hole

The strokes you take on the green during your golf game wind up being about 40 percent of your score. Wild, isn't it? We spend $500 on drivers to gain 10 yards and give it all away in just one or two three-putts and/or missed four-footers. As a corollary, we could use a 1970's laminated driver with some knock-off, found-in-the-garage irons and score the same as our most technologically advanced pals if we just shaved a few strokes off our putting game.

I know, "Drive for show, putt for dough." is what the guys that can't hit the bomb are always saying. I know that the guy that pounds it farthest is "The Man". OK. I have been playing for over forty years and am on average one the longest hitters in the groups I hang with. That being said, my best rounds (and most Nassau wins) have been when I reign in the big swing and drain some putts.

Over the last twenty-five years my handicap has remained fairly constant around twelve to thirteen. That has been in the face of declining frequency of play and plowing through the fifty year-old barrier. How? Putting!

Putting is simply a combination of three key ingredients:

  1. Mind
  2. Reading
  3. Execution

In this article I address the mind. No smoke, no mirrors, just how you mentally approach your putting.

Some years ago, I was reading some self-improvement books and came upon one that was something like "Learn While You Sleep". I just tried to find it by goggling and couldn't locate the exact book. That is not important. What is important is not the techniques taught in the book, but the concept that I came away with and have held ever since. The book was about letting your subconscious train your conscience during sleep, but I found that I could convince myself of certain things while fully conscious. This is the old "talk yourself into it" concept.

Years after I read this book and while putting on a practice green, I drained a few 20 footers. I stepped back and realized that before I had made those putts, I expected that they were going to fall. The hole was huge, the ball was a bee-bee and my putter was a target rifle. Without realizing it, I had convinced myself of future success.

If you believe you will make the putt, you will have a great chance of making that putt. If you can't find that comfort, step back and gain the confidence. If you can't get it during that round, fine, get on the practice green later and gain it. If I did this with my garage-sale putter, lack of confidence, and intermittent jeering of pals, you easily can do it.

As positive as this article is, I hate to bring in the negative. I do so only to remind you of what you have felt so many times. "I can't make this putt but I hope to get it close enough so that I have a gimmee." "It's down hill with a good bit of break; hope I can two-putt it."

Horse manure! You own the green! Three-putt? That is what your opponents do. You are a putting machine. Your putts eat the holes up. Now go out there and prove yourself correct. Stayed tuned for the next two articles on reading greens and then the technique to swat that beebee in the bushel basket.

Family Tree - What Special Characteristics do Some Types of Sharks Have?

All types of sharks have certain characteristics that they share while some can be quite peculiar if not unique. For example, did you ever wonder how experts identify positively the shark involved in a shark attack?

The shape and size of the shark teeth are almost like fingerprints. While the Great White shark has large triangular jagged teeth, the Tiger shark has smaller and strong hook-shaped teeth capable of crushing hard-shell preys such as turtles and crustaceans.

Another special characteristic or feature of certain types of sharks is the fact that unlike most sharks, the Bull shark, the Nurse shark and the Lemon shark do not need to move continuously to breath. In fact, while they rest at the bottom of the ocean, they can breathe by opening and closing their mouth which pumps the water through their gills.

There are also special characteristics to some types of sharks such as their method of reproduction. For example, not all sharks give birth the same way. Some species like the Dogfish shark are oviparous which means that this specie will lay eggs and attach them to seaweed or rocks until they hatch and then fend for themselves.

You also have other shark species such as the Bull shark which is viviparous. This means that they give birth to live babies that were developing in the shark's uterus and being nourished through a placenta with uterine milk.

Finally, there are species like the Great White shark which are ovoviviparous which means that they give birth to live babies that grow internally but are not fed directly by the mother. In fact, they usually survive by eating the yolk sacs. Some species will even produce some extra unfertilized eggs to feed their growing pups while others will feed on their weaker siblings.

As you can see, there are various special characteristics of features that some types of sharks do have. While each specie has its own appearance and behavior, sharks may come from the same family tree but they and have a lot in common their genetic baggage is unique in itself.

My name is Sylvie Leochko. I always found sharks intriguing which explains my desire to learn more about them. I soon discovered that each one of the types of sharks also offers special characteristics and behaviors differentiating them from other species. For example, against all odds, some species such as the Nurse shark can breathe without needing to move continuously unlike most species. If you are as amazed as I am, I invite you to follow this link: http://sharks.findoutnow.org/types-of-sharks.html .

Family Tree - Family Tree Research - Uncover The Gems In Your Family

Tracing your family ancestry has been around for many generations. Originally, it was done by the matriarch of the family, as she recorded the births, marriages and deaths of all of her relatives and close friends. Frequently, these records were kept in the family Bible or a scrapbook. Fortunately, many of these books have been passed down from generation to generation. If you're lucky, you may be in possession of one of those rare books today. When we first start out researching our genealogy, we frequently start with these rare books as our initial source.

These books provide an excellent source of information about our families. In many cases, we find not only important facts about our family we also find newspaper clippings, old photographs, wedding invitations, and family reunion invitations to name a few. These items provide us with important clues and valuable stories that bring our family history to life. Take the time to review each of these items to understand and properly document them.

Once we have recorded all of the information that is contained in these books, we start interviewing close family members for other information that they might have. It is a good idea to take your family tree charts and notes with you to these interviews. The notes you've made will help your family visualize the branch of the family tree that you are tracing. Be sure and display all of the source information that you have found to date, during the interview. This information may help trigger new stories and additional details that will further enhance your understanding of your family's past. Be sure to ask for any additional scrapbooks, articles, old photographs that you might borrow to study in more detail. Make sure you put this information in a separate file, carefully marked so that you can return it to the original owner, exactly as it was provided.

As soon as possible, after the interview, review the stories, documents, and photographs to try and incorporate this information into your family tree research files. Take copies of all of the documents and photographs, and clearly mark on the back of each copy the source of the document, the date it was obtained, and the condition of the original document. These details will be invaluable when you revisit this information, months and even years from now.

As much as we would like to believe that genealogy is the discovery of important and influential ancestors, it is in reality, a complex process of uncovering and documenting historical facts and stories. However, as dry as that sounds, it can also be a very rewarding and challenging hobby. Knowing that we are discovering our family's history and heritage and putting it into context for future generations makes this a very worthwhile project that our family will be able to cherish forever.

Richard Kearns publishes an informative, easy to use website that helps people discover their family heritage and shows them how to document their family tree for future generations. Go to All-About-Family-Trees.com for more information.

Family Tree - Nothing Significant Was Ever Accomplished By A Realistic Person

You can't test your destiny cautiously. The key is: forfeit the safety of what we are for what we could become. Unless you do something beyond what you've already done, you will never grow. Always pick an obstacle big enough to matter when you overcome it.

Know the rules, then break some. Take the limits off. Don't accept good enough as good enough. Tolerating mediocrity in others makes you more mediocre.

When you're a "realistic" person in everything you do, your focus is only on this immediate, measurable moment. Thinking this way limits and restricts you in considering the unlimited possibilities of the future.

You can't make a place for yourself in the sun if you only live under the family tree. Go! Launch out! Be involved in something bigger than you. Do more!

An over-cautious person burns bridges of opportunity before he gets to them. Most of the people who sit around and wait for the harvest haven't planted anything. The average person doesn't want much and usually gets even less.

Until you give yourself to some great cause, you haven't really begun to fully live. "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing" (Helen Keller).

Family Tree - Reducing Your Household Waste - Even With Children in Nappies!

Firstly - paper waste. We all know about recycling paper and newspapers/magazines. But what we all should be doing is using recycled products as well. Recycled toilet paper is a big one! But it also has to be unbleached. Did you know the deadly dioxins caused by chlorine-bleaching paper products causes untold damage to marine creatures and pollution in our waterways? These dioxins leach into the food chain through marine animals that we eat, eventually reaching our babies through the breastmilk in nursing Mums. Make sure your toilet paper is unfragranced. The chemicals used in artificial fragrances can be severely damaging to your health and may trigger allergies in those who are susceptible such as young children and babies or those who have a family history of allergies or asthma.

If you have a baby in nappies, if you use disposables, try to use environmentally-friendly brands that don't use chlorine-bleaching or contain filling material that is biodegradable. Dioxin poisoning from chlorine-bleaching of paper products is of particular concern if you have young children. Better still, use cloth nappies with biodegradable nappy liners. Dispose of disposable nappies in biodegradable nappy bags or even cheap Homebrand paper bags!

Re-use your plastic shopping bags as bin liners or better still, use those enviro-bags sold in almost every store these days! If you must buy bin bags, make sure they're biodegradable and unfragranced.

If you have a child at kindy or pre-school, save those yoghurt containers and other plastic pots in a box which you can drop off at kindy every week. The teachers will love you for it!

Egg cartons can be used as seedling pots which can then be planted straight into the garden where they will break down thus reducing the transplant stress on your precious seedlings.

Donate your used mags to kindy or your local doctor's office - you'll be grateful for something more-up-to-date to read when you next have to pay them a visit!

You can shred your newspaper and use it as a dry filling for your compost heap. Put it in a corner of the garden, add some grass, some chook poo or mushroom compost and let it break down over time. Use some of this as a dry filler for your vege compost or worm farm if you have one.

Don't buy too much pre-packaged food or prepared meals. Just think about how your Mums would have coped in the 70s in the days before Chicken Tonight and Patak's Simmer Sauces! They made everything from scratch! Rediscover the art of family meals by making your own sauces. Wonderful spag bol can be made with just a couple of cans of tomatoes, some basil, garlic, chopped onion and tomato paste! You'll save money and help reduce the amount of packaging that goes into landfill.

Don't buy pre-packed biscuits and snacks for the kids' lunchbox! Make your own delicious, simple, nutritious morning teas like muffins, grated apple pikelets, apricot slices etc... Not everyone has time during the week to cook - just one hour on the weekend to make some muffins which can be individually wrapped in Glad-Wrap for the following week will mean your kids can grab one straight from the freezer and you'll feel good knowing they are free from preservatives and colours and higher in fibre, with less sugar.

So as you can see, reducing your household waste is easy!

Family Tree - Ancient Indian Civilizations - Where Did They All Go?

In 1350 AD we were still quite a few centuries from settling at Plymouth. I have been luckily in that I have found adequate records back to 1200s in my family tree. But this is the time of the end of the inhabitants and Civilization of the Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellers. Some stayed back we suppose, they are the Anastasi Indians. What else was going on in the world during this time? Well as the Indians were leaving there was another civilization flourishing in Thailand and the Thais people had built many city-states.

http://galileo.gits.net.th/www.thaimain.org/en/intro/history.html .

Of course in Italy and Europe they were dealing with the Bubonic Plague. Droughts can cause plagues;

http://www.huttoncommentaries.com/ECNews/SolarHeats/Pisces-AquarianHeatsDroughtsPlagues.htm

and so did the Indians fight over resources and simultaneously had to deal with plagues of the day. We know from El Nino that insects can catch a ride across the Pacific on the jet stream. Did issues such as this add to the problems along with fires, which forced hot air into the air above, ten thousand feet send it into the jet stream and across the ocean? With increased solar activity this is relatively possible and we already know that fires in Russia and China and a Volcano in the Pacific Rim could force debris and insects that would travel with the smoke across the globe. Also dust storms have recently had clouds, which have traveled, twice around the world. As well as the Gulf War sending smoke around the world and changing the atmospheric weather patterns. We know increased electromagnetic energy from solar activity could also cause changes in the ionosphere that changes weather for as many as five or more years. We have recently experienced all of this in the past tow decades.

Now we may not have realized it before, but now with GeoSats I through VII, we have learned more about he weather and its over all effect on our planet and the species and eco-systems in the land, air and sea. Now we know from fallen trees, which have fossilized an estimation of the weather back then. It appears that perhaps we may have accomplished a complete defense system to prevent a repeat of the former issues that mankind had to deal with. For instance air-conditioning, de-salting and the CDC. As far as fighting over resources and killing our fellow species members, apparently genetics has not moved as fast or advanced as much as the innovations which have propelled us to fight these issues. Now we seed the clouds, build barriers, sewer treatment plants, modify foods, use pesticides and fight pathogens, viruses and carefully discharge waste to prevent diseases. I must say if you stand back and look at how far we have come. It is quite impressive.

Now then we see the same signs of the past civilizations, their longevity and their goals. In modern time we saw Hitler proclaim the Third Reich to last some 1000 years. It is possible to create a culture that could accomplish this. It had been done before with the Chinese Dynasties, Egyptians, etc. If you look at England they are well on their way. We are young in the US, but we have really come a along way fast. Are we paying attention to the past and the cycles and flows? Are we kidding ourselves as to resources? Is the rest of the world kidding them selves? Places like Africa where a woman is not considered worthy in her culture unless she has no less than five children living. This is tough since the mortality rate is five to one living, therefore they need to have twenty kids to get five and yet there are not the natural resources or basic infrastructure to support all those children.

When I talk about Basic infrastructure, I mean such things as in sewer treatment plants, water supplies and food shelter and clothing, which are very inefficient in Africa. I suggest "Virus Hunters of The CDC" a great book to explain my point here. Are not paying attention to the most obvious challenges on living on the surface of a planet which is not only quite hostile, but also goes through cycles which make it difficult to habitat. In the US we have evolved our lifestyles and infrastructures to over come these cycles and trends. We are still caught off guard from linear decision making from time to time from politicians and short term thinking special interest groups pulling their strings using such form as a unit of trade or networked group of voters. However usually decisions, which are the worst for our future come from linear decisions which do not take into account the future or known cycles so that our most important projects take into account those issues we must face in future periods, some beyond our own naturals lives. Luckily our innovations have out paced our stupidity. And since free flow thought is still allowed for the most part and only stifled occasionally we all able to use the known clich'; Necessity is the mother of all inventions, to bail us out. This maybe true yet it makes no sense to drive towards a hypothetical point C, when the direct route to B from A is direct (this may not be a straight line).

I submit to you that the issues which have caused Indian Civilizations to fall are the same issues we see today as we attempt to feed more people, who use more resources and often waste that which they use. Growing populations are good for those cultures immersed in trade and using a common currency or unit of trade. We know that declining populations such as the mass exodus in the California bay area, due to miss management by Gray Davis will lead to an accelerated decay as maintenance of infrastructure will not be meeting the lessened flow of dollars in income from taxes. When we look at the zero growth rate of Japan we see a fate, which will befall many European Nations and eventually our population in the United States. The only way out of this is in the next 75 years we will need to change the currency to include payments or vouchers for helping the common good, since we will be over producing with less due to technology, robots and decreased consumption as populations get older.

If we look at Germany with 19% unemployment and taxes of over 70% you can see that free health care is not free at all, as a matter of fact it is nearly 5-6 times the cost as a free market provides such as in the US. With trade down in ancient civilization times as growers could only grow enough to eat and water resources ran out, starving armies grew like starving domestic dogs travel in packs where there is no animal control and they are hungry. Armies can rape and pillage and thus the spoils of war are a way to survive. When Anarchy exists due to a breaking down of civilization, you have turmoil. Which seems to be exactly what happened to the Indians, as we also saw in other times, when people signed up for armies because it meant they could eat if they fought.

When you compound droughts, fires which torch the fields of corn and wheat, which is used to feed your people and animals which bring you everything else with the destruction of wars from your own species. Then you either fight to live, or you die, or you give up and move away. This appears to be either all or part of the factors which led the Indians to leave such places as Mesa Verde:

or Canyon de Chelly;

Why would you leave if you had adequate defense and plentiful water? You would not, and I believe in the end they had neither. Why would you leave paradise unless you had too? The Incas were obviously not stupid people.

I hope this helps you think about our direction as a nation and how we go about our business throughout the world. Civilization includes so many more things than just a nice grouping of buildings and a base of population.

Family Tree - Family Lineage is a Treasure Hunt

Family lineage is one of the most interesting topics for anyone to discuss because it is unique to each family. Finding everything from royalty to heroes in family lineage is exciting. Having a personal record of family lineage is a great treasure. Recently, the Latter-day Saint church provided Larry King with a copy of his family history during his evening TV show. King commented that although he had received many gifts during his life, he would cherish the gift of his family lineage above all the rest.

How do you find the origin and story of a family name as unique as von Niederhausern der Hobo?ken Dans or as common as Jones? There are three major sources for finding information about your family lineage without the help of one of those little kiosks in the mall.

1) Family History Libraries

The easiest way to learn more about your family lineage is to download all the information that has already been compiled. You can do this with the Ancestral File database that is indexed at the world's largest genealogy library, The Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Downloading your family tree onto a GEDCOM file can help you do research on the ancestors you are most interested in. In order to find as much information on your lineage as possible in the database, you'll need to gather information about your parents, your grandparents, and your great-grandparents.

2) Internet

Since only a small percentage of genealogy enthusiasts will ever make it to the Salt Lake Valley, the information has been placed online at FamilySearch.org'a non-profit website that helps make vital records available to researchers.

3) Field Research

Field research is not always the most practical method for filling in the gaps of your family lineage. It's certainly the most time consuming, but it is also often the most rewarding. After exhausting the data that's already been compiled in indexes, the next step is to do your own research. You can hire an accredited genealogist to do this for you, or you can tackle it yourself. Field research is done by going into census records, birth/death records, marriage records, and anything else that's available in order to find information on a family.

These are some basic sources of finding information. Certainly, volumes have been compiled on the subject of family lineage, but only recently has a new method of research been revealed'DNA testing. Through DNA, people whose research has hit a roadblock and hasn't moved for years can conduct a DNA test to either confirm records already obtained, link themselves to someone they believe to be a relative, or determine what ethnicities make up their DNA.

Remember that building a record of your family lineage is a very time-consuming process, but it is extremely rewarding. Through either the help of a professional or your own efforts, family lineage is a treasure worth discovering.
